The pigeon

The bird you have
never really seen.

It is on every pavement. Every city square. Every windowsill. You have walked past it ten thousand times and never thought twice. That is exactly the problem — and exactly what we are here to change.

10,000
Years alongside us
Pigeons have lived with humans longer than any other domesticated bird. They carried messages across continents, saved lives in wartime, and were revered across the ancient world. We have been walking past them ever since.
They recognise your face
Pigeons can identify individual human faces and remember them for years. They also pass the mirror self-recognition test — a benchmark that most primates fail. The bird on your pavement knows who you are. You probably cannot say the same.

Mainstream stories told about them
There is no film. No series. No story that has taken what science actually tells us about pigeons and put it in front of a general audience. That is what The Welfare Standard is making first.

“The problem is not the pigeon.
The problem is that we stopped seeing it.

The Welfare Standard

We are a media and advocacy organisation. We make television, film, games, and books about the animals most people have stopped seeing — not as welfare documentaries for people who already care, but as stories that earn their audience. The revenue from those stories funds the advocacy. We are built to last.

Coming soon

A short film.
The pigeon's story, properly told.

We are finishing the first film now. It is about the bird on your pavement — where it came from, what it can do, and why we stopped paying attention. Sign up and you will be the first to watch it.
